Uncle Jimmy

Spring River banks ‘round four years old

My grandaddy taught me how to line a cane pole

With a red and white bobber, fish was bite’n

They hit the hook and worm like country light’nin

We walked Black Rock to Imbodeen

And found grandad’s brother there on the scene

With a helmet on his head, buds in his ears

My granny said it kept the peace and helped ease his fears...

Uncle Jimmy fought in Vietnam

There he give his mind to his Uncle Sam

Letters were written, the checks never came

Before he fought the war, they said he’d gone insane...

Left and Right boys, let them fight

Yall, do what your government says

If they die, well may they all fly high

To give thanks to the lord and pray

Oh, they let him fight their war, and said he was insane.

It’d sure would be nice to be four again...

Jimmy come back, Salvation in sight

He joined a Red & White Army to live out his life

With a camouflage jacket, and a helmet on his head

For many years he’d walk this Earth to his last breath

Left and Right boys, let them fight

Yall, do what your government says

If they die, well may they all fly high

To give thanks to the lord and pray

Oh, they let him fight their war, they said he was insane.

It’d sure would be nice to be four again... to be four again...

He died a flatline flunky on Interstate 10

The day he give his life to those Texas winds

From Old El Paso to San Angelo

If there is a God... Lord rest his soul

Left and Right boys, let them fight

Yall, do what your government says

If they die, well may they all fly high

To give thanks to the lord and pray

Oh, they let him fight their war, they said he was insane.

It’d sure would be nice to be four again... to be four again...

Jimmy lived a life that was mighty fright’nin

He hit that open road like Country light’nin.
